i felt bad for Aaron when the truth about his b***h of an ex-wife came to light. then when he couldn't return to the job and friends that he loved. now he is in a place that he can start over. then Imogen shows up in his world and now he can also have a chance at actually finding love. Imogen is just working and doing what she can to raise her nephew. and she is drawn to the man that is Aaron because of the man that he is, but also because she loves his scars that he carries with him.
i knew that one day that Aaron was going to be able to finally find that one person that will see him, not the scars left behind from his past. and Imogen was just that girl. hey chicks dig scars and beards.
After waiting for so long for the release I was a bit disappointed. A good story but very choppy and seemed disjointed. I bought books 1 & 2 so will read book 2 before I decide to go further. Inconsistency within the story, some times the MC was referred to as the Dixie Wardens and at other times the DW Rejects, so which one are they? Some things seemed out of place within the story but were never explained - the car bomb for instance I know why it was there, but once it exploded no other mention of it was made - someone was threatening the MC but they just didn't seem to care or make any effort to find out who. The sister was extended overseas but now she is home within a couple of days of the phone call saying her tour was extended, the father of Davis causing problems - but never mentioned again, the personality of Gen and Aaron, barely speaking to almost living together within a very short time all because of Stone's death? this part of the story wasn't smooth at all. I liked how she brought some of the past DW members/spouses into the story, and made an effort to meld them all together.
Beard Mode is the first book in Lani Lynn Vale’s new series, The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC, the highly-anticipated spin-off series of her bestselling Heroes of the Dixie Wardens MC series. When Lani first started hinting about the series, I immediately paid attention. I am a huge fan of the Dixie Wardens MC series, so I was very interested in this series. In 2016, Lani took some big risks with her writing and tried new things as evidenced in her edgier, grittier Uncertain Saints MC series and her Kilgore Fire series. All of that experimentation has definitely paid off, and the results are obvious in this series. I’ve always loved her writing style and the way she tells a story. She’s returned to her roots in Beard Mode, but with a sharper and more polished writing style that translated into a richer and fuller plot. She’s introduced a whole new slate of intriguing characters in a new location, and I can’t wait to get my hands on these books!

Beard Mode is more intense than the Dixie Wardens MC series with an exciting, interesting plot that kept me on the edge of my seat until late into the night. One of the hallmarks of any Lani’s novels is the way that she weaves her unique sense of humor into the story, so I was very happy to find plenty of her wit throughout this story. I’ve been waiting for Aaron’s story since he was introduced in the Kilgore Fire series. He has been through so much, both physically and emotionally, and I was very much looking forward to seeing him make his way to the other side of all of that. Imogen was the perfect heroine for this damaged man. She was patient, she was loyal, she was kind and honest. She was exactly what he needed, she gave as good as she got, and their love story was very sweet and sexy.

Now that I’ve read this book, I am even more excited about the whole series than I was before. She has given her readers the start of something special in this series, and as a fan of hers since the very beginning, I’m beyond thrilled. Beard Mode by Lani Lynn Vale gets five smooches from me!
