Sera has always felt like an outcast, with only her one friend Kyle, a fellow misfit to keep her company. But Sera does not know anything about the supernatural world that Kyle is part of, as well as the ongoing battle between good and evil that has been going on forever. When strange things start to occur in Sera's life, she realizes there are secrets her parents are not telling her- secrets that have everything to do with Sera.Overall this was a very cool concept for a book, with ancient deities and battles from supernatural creatures I have never encountered before as well as reincarnation (which is one of my favorite concepts and I need more of in my stories!). Also, the supernatural elements were so well described and at times scary, really intriguing me with the horror like aspects. I will make this review super short though because I do not like being negative, but this book was not for me. I could not get into it to save my life. I spent most of the story being confused by all the characters that were introduced as well as the motivations for why certain things were going on. Also, I could never connect to Sera, at times I thought she was kind of a jerk and other times I was just confused by her attitude and actions in general (I liked the narration by Kyle better since he was way more relatable- even though he was not human and potentially evil...hmm, I wonder what that says about me?). Side note, there is also a love triangle between Sera, her best friend Kyle and her reincarnated soulmate.
This was my first book by this author (who I had the opportunity to meet and loved!) and I will most certainly read a different series by her in the future. I know that other people will love this book and the different kind of culture and supernatural featured.

Alpha Goddess Amalie Howard Books Reviews
An intriguing novel of fate, destiny and personal responsibility all uniquely crafted into a tale of love and eternity. Howard's interpretation of Hindu mythology and the epic story of Ram and Sita is compelling, forcing the reader to dig deeper and take a closer look at the struggles that confront and the ultimate choices we make. Her use of Hindu mythology as she weaves her story of love, duty, and individual choice is unique...similar to nothing I've read before. Her images of heaven and hell are thought provoking...again steeped in Hindu mythology but distinctly captured through Howard's graphic creativity.
Love this! Hindu mythology is hardly represented in today's literature, and I learned so much while enjoying a great story.
I bought this for my teenage daughter for her Birthday and she absolutely loved it. This is the second book she owns by Amalie Howard and just loves her writing and stories. Amalie is on my daughter's Top Author and Must Buy List. Amalie Howard is very fan friendly and a pleasure to talk to on her Facebook page or through her website. My daughter and I highly recommend any of her books, including Alpha Goddess.
I love reading stories that incorporate mythology, and this is steeped in it. I loved the characters, and the world building. I'm definitely buying the sequels.
This was a really fun read and everything I want when I pick up a young adult fantasy read. I’ve always enjoyed mythology but I’ve never read anything with Hindu mythology and I have to say it was a refreshing change. It makes Alpha Goddess a breath a fresh air in a sea of angels, demons, and Greek gods.
Sera is our heroine and she is the kind of heroine I really like. You start off really feeling for her. She has been smothered her whole life and just wants to be normal. She has no clue who she is and she also has so clue why she has been so sheltered. Once she finds out the truth, she is shocked and of course it changes her. What I loved is that she didn’t just all of a sudden become super strong and awesome; she had to grow into that. She had to come to terms with all the new information and honestly it’s a lot to process, but I loved the way she handled everything. Now throw in two truly lovable guys and of course she has a lot on her hands.
Now I know some of you are probably rolling your eyes and dismissing this one already because of the love triangle, but I would urge you not to. This is a very well done love triangle and you will be just as torn between the two as Sera is. Both guys are genuinely good and you can’t really hate either one, which is exactly how you should feel in a love triangle. Dev represents the cosmic love that spans time and is a whirlwind and undeniable. Then there is Kyle, who represents the love that grows over time and is born from friendship. Of course there was one I was pulling for more than the other, but I never hated either.
Kyle was my favorite of the two. He has had a rough past and truly believes he doesn’t deserve anything good. But he loves Sera and is willing to go to extreme lengths for her. He doesn’t always make the best decisions but they usually come from a good place. He also owns up to his mistakes and takes responsibility for them. He doesn’t try to hide them and fix them himself. He isn’t perfect and that is why I think I loved him so much.
Alpha Goddess is written in the third person and it works so well for this book. It was nice not to be constricted to Sera’s point of view. We got to see how all the pieces fit together in the story from numerous points of view. It worked really well and I enjoyed every second of it.
As I mentioned before I really liked the Hindu mythology aspect to the story. I have never read anything with this framework before so it was very refreshing for me. I’ll admit that at times it was a lot of information for me to take in, but that was mostly because all of it was new to me. I really enjoyed learning about this new (to me) element.
Alpha Goddess was a great read and it was a lot of fun. There was a ton of action and interweaving plot lines and a great romance. Everything you want in fantasy young adult.
