I have been looking forward to reading Grounded since I first heard about it. I knew it was a YA book and expected the coming of age story with the supernatural mix. There's been a lot of that going around, so it couldn't be a knock off type of book. I knew there would be something different about this one. But I was not expecting deft handling of the characters's special skills, nor the way the placement in time and place pulled me, as a reader, forward and shuttled me into reality in a way that hit me right in the gut.

It's not easy to make fictional characters with special powers believable and it's even harder to make them real enough that the reader stops fantasizing about them and relates to them on the deepest level. I felt the joy and the challenges of these characters as intensely as the emotions I personally felt in similar real life situations.

I cried at the end and I can't wait for more. I have to stop here or I will give away too much. This is why we read, not to assuage our boredom, or keep up with the latest best sellers, but to share human emotion. I hope this book touches you, as it did me!

This book was great! I am really fond of mystical & unusual. I can't wait for the next one. I look forward to seeing how the Rose & Casey story continues.
This was a very touching story. I felt very connected to the characters and the story will stay with me for some time. The descriptions were fabulous so that I felt as if I was there. The dialogue was so well written and the pace was perfect. I recommend this story to all.
As an elementary school teacher, I mentally divide YA books into two categories those I read to see what my students are reading and those that are so well written than they count as pleasure reading for me, too. This book fits squarely into the second category. The story picks you up and carries you along until suddenly, you are out of book and wanting more. This book was not written, it was crafted. Read it now.
This book is one you can't put down. The characters you want to meet and get to know better. When I can picture the entire scene in my mind then the writer has done an excellent job. The author has left us wanting more. Please hurry with the next book.
When I realized I was reaching the end of this story, I was torn on reading faster or putting the book down and waiting. Beautifully well written with interesting characters and a very interesting story line. I only wish the second book was out. I already miss the characters. I loved how the knitting was incorporated into the story. Cannot wait to see where things go!
I bought this book at 5 pm and didn't look up till midnight. It's that good. I am a former elementary school librarian and bookstore sales person and honestly this book would have flown off the shelves. And not just because of the utterly believable magic which infuses every lovely twist and turn of the fast paced plot line!! Aside from magic there are great coming of age issues, the teenaged dialogue is pitch perfect. The characters are well drawn. And the HUMOR!! It is quirky and witty and charming. I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book. Am buying copies for my 14 year old niece, my 23 year old daughter and my, ahem,nearly 30 year old daughter in law!! Does that tell you anything?
This book has magic and teens in love, but it's no Harry Potter or Twilight. Instead the players are much more real, much more fleshed out, and faced with much more ordinary daily problems, all of which make them easier to relate to. Concretely set in the New York of the early 2000's, Grounded follows Rose from her home in Arizona to a safe house for "special" teens. She is faced with all the frustrations of being a teenager, PLUS the additional burden of having psychic talents that she is barely able to control. Fitting in with the other teens at the house, and learning how to manage her own skills, is fascinating on its own. But, the novel takes a turn a little past the halfway point that the astute reader is expecting. Even so, I was still caught off guard. I was very sorry to come to the end of the book, and fervently hope the author hurries up and writes a sequel or five.
